In the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1, a zatarc detector is an advanced lie detector used by the Tok'ra for screening people who have been the subject of Goa'uld mind control technology and become unknowing sleeper agents (called "zatarcs").
The zatarc detector works by comparing the subconscious and conscious memory of a person, because the Goa'uld use false memories to cover the zatarc programming. The person being interrogated can be asked any question (not just a yes/no question) and the detector can determine if the recalled memory is true or false, even if the person does not realize it himself.
A zatarc detector was used in the episode Divide and Conquer, when the Tok'ra and Stargate Command screened everyone at the SGC before a treaty meeting between the American President and the Tok'ra High Council, believing that a zatarc would attempt an assassination, and in the episode Allegiance to ferret out the assassin of the head of Tok'ra security.
