    Yet Another Blog:
2:20 PM 8/27/2008 - I have not been updating this blog, but I do update my youtube channel. The content is different from yawiki, but that is okay. It might be enteraining to you. I am also a peak OIL activist.
    2:20 PM 8/27/2008 -
;) Been a while since this page has been updated. Blogging is difficult work. Keeping this site upto date is also difficult work. I would like to repair a few things, and improve a few things. But will there be time and money?
2:20 PM 4/25/2008 - I found this, and thought this is definitly worth checking out.

4:20 PM 3/19/2008 - Robotic Mule from Boston Dynamics. This robot can walk on difficult terrain, possibly could be used to carry a load. Interesting.

1:00 PM 2/17/2008 - Engineers at Cornell University have designed an odd machine that can rebuild itself into all sorts of configurations. Apparently, it is even capable of performing repairs on itself.

1:00 PM 2/15/2008 - Uh-oh, we will see more of this,

1:00 PM 2/05/2008 - Japanese researchers unveil a baby robot. This type of research is important. The discoveries made will compound themselves with new discoveries. I can't help but believe I see an eerie form of consciousness when I see the baby. Watch:
11:00 AM 2/02/2008 - There are independent advancements being made in robot technology. Many of these advancements are important. Each, independent is somewhat limited, but together, they represent the rising of a new species.
    11:00 AM 2/02/2008 -
    11:00 AM 2/02/2008 -
5:00 AM 2/02/2008 - Now this is an amazing advancement:

9:00 AM 1/24/2008 - It seems ruthless of Google, that they simply through away the key like that. Oh well. Enough about google. Something more interesting is this article on Asimo.
12:00 PM 1/8/2008 - We invite you to sign our petition to free us from google jail.
6:00 PM 1/1/2008 - Fresh New Year, and Fresh new feature - Most Active. This feature enables yawiki to create a "top list" of active pages during the day. Thank you for the suggestions. I heard that a couple of new things are cooking. We may possible re-instate the discussion board.
    9:00 AM 12/20/2007 -

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR !

9:00 AM 12/02/2007 - We added advertising to the site because we need to offset our expenses for the redesign, as well as the hosting cost.
9:00 AM 12/02/2007 - Thanks to Tim Maude for helping to design the new site.
9:00 AM 10/19/2007 - For those looking for the race, you can find it here. We took it down because not enough participation. Still in google jail. It seems clear at this point that they're not going to let us out of google jail. We shall see what happens next.
6:00 PM 10/12/2007 - Are machines approaching life? If so, when do we consider them alive?
6:00 PM 9/13/2007 - Strange, this year we passed 9/11 without too much discussion. Lets not forget. If you want to see our real time traffic charting tool, have a look here. We've got some work left to do to it, so those who read this blog will get a sneak peak. Once again, if you have a website and want to join in, be our guest. Its free and will get you some extra exposure.
10:00 AM 9/03/2007 - Something totally cool is happening with Yawiki. We will be doing news release as soon as it is complete. In the mean time, please have a look at this traffic chart.
10:00 AM 8/21/2007 - One month later, not too much has changed around here. New statistics (rat race) are available which should make the usefulness of the site increase, but who knows. Something is cooking again at Yawiki, and when it is released, it should be obvious to those who visit often.
10:00 AM 7/28/2007 - The whole Open Source question is popping up again. The question is should we simply give away the source code for the server, client ? It has cost us alot to get the project to this point. Why should we just give it away? Maybe the answer to that is that maybe money is not all that its cracked up to be.
5:48 AM 7/11/2007 - Yawiki statistics is now active and we've launched a little rat race. If you have a website, and are a Fan of Yawiki, join in the contest. Its all just for fun. You can compete along side Yawiki. It will also give us a chance to test and fix it.
5:48 AM 7/11/2007 - Yawiki now has a Parameter feature. The feature is cool, and unique. Take for example this page, Resistance is futile. By using Parameters, we can now make the page dynamic. Like this:
    Neat Eh?
11:24 PM 6/30/2007 - I think it is about time that Google release, or at least decrease the penalty that they have struck us with. Right now they have us in Google jail. That is because we have some content on our site that is from GNU.
12:59 PM 6/27/2007 - It is the eye of the storm. Statistics now semi-automated yawiki.org. Anyone who wants to use this for your own statistics, please feel free. It can help us test it.. You can do this by adding the tracker to your website. Here is the statistic setup info
9:00 AM 6/20/2007 - Professor Joe Sant, a founding member of this site has recently did something very cool, with the help of some cool code from MIT. Scientus.org, has setup an interactive History of the telescope timeline. The component is very cool and fun. Definitly worth a peek.
10:55 PM 6/15/2007 - Clearly Yawiki has been getting smarter. The new addition of logs is a good feature. Finally somebody signed the petition. 2 names is not enough I'm afraid. We'll keep it open though. Some debate has happened around the idea of using a light weight editor on the local site.... we shall see.
11:11111 PM 5/14/2007 - His brain is very limited. Here is a graphic from alicebot.org. We hope one day to update this graphic.

    .
11:1111 PM 5/14/2007 - Yawiki is sometimes very stupid. I asked him, "Do you have anything you want to say today". He came back with the response "We're Sorry, the page "Anything you want to say" does not exist yet. If you would like to create it, click here ("Anything you want to say")." Not very smart. There has been some debate over how these pages should be treated.
11:111 PM 5/14/2007 - Yawiki, do you have anything you want to say? "Hello there. What kind of people are you talking about? ". I asked Yawiki what he wanted to say to the people who read my blog.
11:11 PM 5/14/2007 - The 11:11 blog. Do you ever touch the clock and make a wish? We're going to have to teach Yawiki robot to do this blog on his own. We've got some cool stuff coming, now that the project has some commercial possibilities. GNU would look down on that, and say we should give everything away - and we can still do that in the future. But there is basically a snow flakes chance in hell this site could sustain itself from donations. It is just not a viable idea. Time to make a wish......
1:13 PM 5/08/2007 - Due to the complications of getting the GNU stamp of approval, we've decided not to do an open source release. This is due to several factors, but largely just because people don't seem to care. Instead we're going to be selling the technology at a price. This project has just gotton too expensive and laboursome to do for free. If you wish to see this project revert to OpenSource, please sign your name here. Yawiki:Petition
5:00 PM 5/01/2007 - Today, we've been getting some lime light from ALICE FOUNDATION. That is because of our Robot, Yawiki.. Alice is a powerful and flexible system which enabled us to build a cool robot. We added some very cool features. In many ways, Yawiki has some basic "Common Knowledge". For example, it knows the answer to "is an apple an orange" or "is an apple a fruit". These are difficult problems to solve in AI. We hope Yawiki has a long future.
6:56 AM 5/01/2007 - Yesterday was our worst nightmare. We blew a motherboard. We somehow managed to get a new motherboard, install it, test it, and get back online rather rapidly. This website is a money loser. It is highly unlikely that we could survive off donations, so we're probably going to be a bit more aggressive, as needed, to cover our costs. Oh, did I mention this involved driving 2 and a half hours both ways to London where our server is? For some odd reason we choose to setup in London instead of Toronto
9:31 AM 4/23/2007 - (CONTINUED) All websites have ups and downs. Sometimes it is difficult for a website to make a mark. Yawiki is an experiment. It started out as one thing, and it evolves through time. Once a wiki, it is slowly leaving that history behind and evolving into a different system. What will happen next?
9:21 AM 4/19/2007 - A short rant. This project has gone on for just about a Year now. It started as Yawiktionary.com. It then spread to an Atlas and the full out encyclopedia. Countless hours have been spent by numerous volunteers who have contributed in one form or another. And then, at the end of it all of that ..... (TO BE CONTINUED)
9:21 AM 4/10/2007 - It has been a while since the blog has been updated. Some progress has been made. Playing around with a new look and feel. Hopefully we can post it online and people can provide some feedback.
8:21 AM 3/15/2006 - We've done our initial release, however it appears there are still some issues to be worked out. Who knew how hard it would be to acheive GNU compliance.
    8:21 AM 2/2/2006 - GNU release comming...
8:21 AM 2/2/2006 - A word from one of our sponsors... If you are in the Southern Ontario Region, and would like to take a cruise of lake ontario, and do some salmon fishing in toronto, please visit book a corporate charter
11:55 AM 12/21/2006 - Thanks to an unknown editor who seems to be gung ho on improving the site. They have edited more then 15 pages! Congrats to you, whoever you are. On the same token, due to Vandalism, we may enable protections on several key pages.
    11:55 AM 12/21/2006 - We're back online.
8:50 PM 12/6/2006 - Save has been enabled. It may be taken down if it is abused, or if new bugs crop up. - If you find a bug, please goto the forum and let us know about it so we can improve this software. Our official GPL release is coming.
2:50 PM 11/30/2006 - Looking for the outback! Good Aye Mate,

    3:46 AM 11/27/2006 - Must Sleep.....
8:21 PM 11/26/2006 - An early version of the editor is now up and running. SAVE IS DISABLED UNTIL SOME SECURITY ISSUES ARE ADDRESSED. It is on all pages in the main site. As soon as I see people going in and actually using this feature, I will enable the toolbar at the top. This is basically a test, to see if people actually want to edit, or not.
12:03 PM 11/26/2006 - Below are some more statistics from various parts of the world. Since I travelled to China several times, and it is one of my favourite destinations, I will show you the chinese penetration first:
    wo ai zhong guo!

Next, lets have a look at South Korea, Very interesting to see the concentration near and around Seoul.

If you are ever in Asia, make sure you visit Japan:

Indian food is my favourite food, and I would love to visit India one day, this is interesting:

    C'est grand !

Another place I would like to visit is South Africa:
Singapore is a small island with about 5 million people on it, it is an awesome place to visit:
11:42 AM 11/26/2006 - Server Gambit - There comes a time in every websites life where it needs a faster server. Please visit this link, and you will agree that is just about the coolest server you have ever seen.

12:31 PM 11/25/2006 - This morning, I fixed the character encoding on the main site. That was not an easy task. Soon, we will have to do some more improvements to the renderer, but - this is a work in progress. As you can see below, we have had some traffic recently, so the site is gaining a little bit of popularity. Although others would still deny it, we are one of the very first unofficial forks of wikipedia. This has been no small feat, to single handedly rewrite the entire wikipedia engine from scratch in Java. Much to do yet....

9:26 PM 11/16/2006 - Special thank you to Captain Wayne Andrews, owner operator of Andrews Charters, (Andrews Charter) for helping to support this project.
7:46 AM 11/10/2006 - Last night I made several improvements to the site. I fixed punctuation, character encodings, and a few other items. I also added some google adsense. This should help offset the rising cost of running this site. For those who follow this site, please keep your eyes peeled for what happens next in this Blog.
3:20 AM 11/2/2006 - Changed logo. The search engine uses Googles SOAP API, and another search engine, and then merges the results. This is a link to the google API. Because it is in BETA, we're not allowed to use it, so it is disabled. Some minimal form of advertising may be required at some point, to keep things going. I think we will just DIY through PayPal. So, if you are interested in getting some cheap fully qualified traffic/adspace to help support this site, please click the button below. We do get quite a few visitors now (probably more than you think), and any support we could get would always help to improve the website. And this site NEEDS improvements. It has gotten rather expensive to do everything ourselves so far.
6:15 PM 10/31/2006 - Just finished carving pumpkins. So, Happy Hallowe'en. Here is a link to the word: pumpkin
    pumpkin
9:33 AM 10/31/2006 - ATTACK OF THE KILLER SPIDERS In the last 24 hours it seems every spider on the internet decided to join in the spider frenzy. Our logs show over 2,000,000 GET requests from spiders. You do the math. None the less it knocked us off the internet for several hours in the wee hours of the morning. Talk about bad luck.
This is one of the reasons I forked wikipedia. Actually, I was one of the very first forkers. In recent news, the former founder of wikipedia has decided to also "fork" wikipedia. This sent shock waves throughout the community. As with me, many were unhappy with this choice. I received alot of flame, nasty comments etc. So here we are, going down a new road - and we have alot of choices now. The multiplication of wikis on the internet "yawiki's" is essentially adding more than one point of view. This will be an interesting evolution for information because it will be impossible to police. Indeed the internet has been filled with Spam wikis. However, this yawiki will not be spam. By allowing users the freedom to alter 100% of the page, it would logically lead to spam. The only way around this is peer review. But we cant force people to review, so the design must be natural, and be reviewed "naturally". In this sense, rather than having 1 view point on a particular 'page', there may be many view points. These views should be given a way to naturally compete in my opinion. I suppose that is enough philosophical chit chat for one day.

Oh, new Word of the Week is breeze. I decided on this word while enjoying the gentle fall breeze in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

9:56 PM 9/13/2006 - Death is the Word of the Week. I choose this word after watching a documentary called "Dying at grace" by Allan King. 2 Thumbs up. Oh, for those who didnt notice, I changed the site a bit. The change should make it faster. I also have to change all of the gifs to jpgs. I didnt know this, but its an important part of GNU.
1:12 AM 9/12/2006 - I still think that these graphics are cool to watch grow and change. Here is the newest.
4:43 PM 9/7/2006 - Forum is still coming. Thanks to the good people at Canadian Financial Network I was able to get a new server for the site. The server is "under construction" and will be launched soon. I wont make any promises, but I will say that the new server will also have a new version of the site. :-) Stay tuned for that. I have some cool pictures of everything being put together too.
7:17 PM 8/30/2006 - Ok. My system clock is about 3 hours behind, so this posting is actually happening in my past. I restructured the site. This is so that my blogging does not interfere with the whole sites load time. I figured its not fair, to the visitors of this site. Here is a great link to no where. Here is a link to home. I have not had enough time lately to do all of the things I would like to do. I am trying to find a good, GPL GNU blog. So far, no luck. Ideas should be sent to yawiki at yawiki dot org. Oh. A forum will be here shortly. Source forge open now. I was correct about the hotmail thing. However now that it is open, I dont know what to do with it. Do you?
11:54 AM 7/31/2006 - I just removed a bunch of garbage which was in the database. Amazing to know how much useless information can build up like that. I culled over 2200 records this morning.
8:58 PM 7/30/2006 - Still having problems with some search engines, I checked the stats with google analytics. Looks pretty neat. Quite a global bunch. See below.
7:51 PM 7/30/2006 - 28000+ Added sounds. Sounds done with english sound pack, so some are incorrect. Looking for solution with freetts. Removed more wiki markup from the core parser. Added 3200 new words. Having difficulty with the server, some file transfers are stalling (due to size?). Uhg. Should finish by wednesday. Ideas? Please send them to yawiki at yawiki dot org. Unable to register at source forge. Could be our hotmail email address? Rich client still buggy, won't release on time. Maybe Late August? Registered project with GNU, but have not heard anything yet.
