The West Germanic tribes were Germanic peoples who spoke the branch of Germanic languages known as West Germanic languages. They appear to be derived from the Jastorf culture, an Pre-Roman Iron Age offshoot of the Nordic Bronze Age culture. The West Germanic tribes expanded southwards to the Rhine and later down to the Alps and west into Great Britain. Examples of tribes:
