A webisode is a webcast episodic video show. It is similar in structure to a television series and usually new episodes are published on a periodic basis through a website or some other internet based medium. Typically shows have short runs (about 5 episodes) but some go on for much longer. Content varies greatly and sometimes the webisodes are just to push some other content (such as an upcoming film).
Eytmology: Los Angeles, California. First known use of the word Webisode believed to be 1999, attributed to Stan Lee Media in the promotion of the 7th Portal online superhero series created by Jesse Stagg and Steven Salim. Earlier usage by the textually-based seaQuest 2047 to describe their periodic publications, beginning circa 1996.
