The Star Trek fictional universe contains a very large number of weapons.
Phasers Phasers are common directed-energy weapons available in the form of a personal hand-held device and a starship-mounted weapon. They are standard equipment found aboard most Federation starships. Phase cannon The Phase cannon is a 22nd century energy weapon, phase cannons first began appearing throughout the Earth Starfleet in the fictional year of 2151.• Initially phase cannons generally were more powerful than spatial torpedoes.• Lasers Lasers are considered primitive in comparison to phasers and disrupters, and are effectively useless in ship to ship combat against the more advanced military powers of the Star Trek universe.• Starfleet was still using laser sidearms for a short period of time, though they were quickly phased out as the hand phaser became the weapon of choice for the Federation away teams. Cascading Biogenic Pulse The Cascading Biogenic Pulse is a hi-tech weapon, first used in 2379 by Senator Shinzon. It uses Thalaron Radiation and causes any living being within a specified region to undergo sudden and drastic change and become almost rock-like. It was first used to assasinate the entire Romulan Senate. Shinzon then attempted to use it on the USS ''Enterprise''-E. Data destroyed the Scimitar and prevented the weapon from being used by firing a Phaser into the Cascading Biogenic Pulse. In the process, Data was destroyed. Spatial torpedoes Spatial torpedoes are 22nd century weaponry, the Enterprise (NX-01) originally used the spatial torpedo as its primary ship-to-ship weapon, prior to installing phase cannons the spatial torpedo was the most powerful weapon carried aboard the Enterprise. Spatial torpedoes where later superceded by the more powerful anti-matter weapon photonic torpedoes. The original series episode "Balance of Terror" stated that the Earth-Romulan War was fought with atomic weaponry, it is unknown if the spatial torpedo is an atomic weapon. Photon torpedoes A photon torpedo is a torpedo weapon armed with an antimatter warhead; these weapons are often part of a starship's and space station's arsenal. The photon torpedo was first introduced during the Star Trek: The Original Series first season episode "Arena". During the run of Deep Space 9, photon torpedoes began to be replaced by more powerful quantum torpedoes, which have also been used in the more recent Star Trek films. Klingons possess photon torpedo weaponry as early as 2151.• Photon torpedoes appear as red, orange, yellow or blue blobs of light when fired. Quantum torpedoes Quantum torpedoes were first seen in the Deep Space Nine episode “The Search”. They are known to be carried aboard Sovereign and Defiant class starships. The non-canon "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual" states that quantum torpedoes utilize zero-point energy. | ||||||||
