War§ow (aka Warsow or WSW) is an open source first-person shooter game for Microsoft Windows and Linux. It uses a 3D engine based on Qfusion (a modification of Quake II GPL engine). The game uses cartoonish graphics with celshading style, mixing dark, flashy and dirty textures to achieve a unique look. While War§ow is still early beta software, the Cyberathlete Amateur League has accepted it as a competition-worthy game since version 0.12, and its popularity is on the rise.
Gameplay The very competitive gameplay of War§ow focuses heavily on movement and trickjumping. Players use many tricks/bugs found in the Quake engine including strafejumping, doublejumping and rocketjumps. There are also tricks like the walljump and dash that were copied from the UT series. These movements are all combined to improve the player's proficiency while moving around maps in-order to effectively collect powerups, confuse and overpower the enemy with speed and rapidness. War§ow has a unique power-up system for weapons. Each weapon has normal ammo included with its pick-up. Ammo collected separately on the map makes it more powerful, and in the case of some weapons, changes its behavior slightly. | |||||||||
