    Gameplay
The game's action centers mainly on combating enemies, though it requires some platform navigation similar to Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. It has a fairly simple control scheme, using only the A, B, R, and Z buttons, along with the control stick.

    Main Levels
Wario World is divided into 4 main worlds, each with 2 levels and a boss fight at the end. Once you beat a boss in a level, the next level in that world opens. When you defeat the boss of the world, the next world opens and you get a key. Once you get all 4 keys, the final boss fight against the Black Jewel opens. The worlds, levels, and bosses are:

    Unithorns Lair

Whenever you fall off a cliff in any world, you will be brought to the Unithorn's lair, their is only one enemy in the Unithorn's lair which are Unithorns. There is also a strange liquid inside this lair and touching it causes Wario to drop his cash. The only way to escape the Unithorn's lair is to find the hidden exit spring.

    Secret Levels
The game also features many secret levels which can be accessed from within the main levels through trapdoors. Wooden trapdoors lead to underground stages which involve solving some sort of puzzle using the Ground Pound ability. Metal trapdoors lead to skyhigh stages which involve mainly platform skills.

    Collectables
Coins: Coins appear when Wario defeats enemies. They come in different colors and sizes, each type being of a different value. When Wario loses all his health, he can pay a sum of coins to continue from where he left off.
Treasures: When Wario finds a colored button with a W on it, he can punch it to activate it. When activated, a treasure chest will appear on the corresponding colored platform somewhere in the level. Sometimes you find the platform before you find the button, so some backtracking will be required. If you get all 8 treasures in a level, you can upload Wario Ware Micro-games into your GBA.
Gold Statues: These float around in the levels, and if you get all 8 in a level, Wario's heart meter permanently extends by half a heart. Since there are 8 levels, you can extend Wario's heart meter by 4 full hearts if you get all of these.
Red Diamonds: These are found at the end of Trapdoors. You have to complete some type of puzzle or obstacle course to get one. You need these because there is a statue called a Stone Doohickey on top of the trapdoor that leads to the boss. If you give the Stone Doohickey enough Red Diamonds, you can fight the boss of the area. As you progress through the game, you need more Red Diamonds to fight the bosses.
Spritelings: They were imprisoned when the Black Jewel broke loose. You can free them by punching the little cages that they are trapped in. All of them give you advice that will help you on your quest to some extent. The number of spritelings you free may alter the ending.

    Story
The game takes place after Wario Land 4. After collecting treasure from the Golden Pyramid (and visiting all-you-can-eat steak restaurants), Wario has filled his castle with all the money and precious gems that he's collected from around the World. Unfortunately the magical Black Jewel, in fact a nefarious living being, transforms all of Wario's treasures into nasty creatures and sends Wario to another dimension. In order to recover his treasure and his castle, and escape the mysterious dimension, Wario must defeat the realm's many odd creatures, turning them back into coins, and defeat the Black Jewel once and for all.

    Enemies
Most enemies fall into one of several categories. Though their appearances differ throughout the levels, their abilities remain the same, except for the fact that they grow stronger as the player progresses through the game.

    top

    Common enemies
Mini Magon: The weakest and most numerous enemies. They are more of an annoyance than a threat, and many can be defeated with just one punch. Examples are Mini Magons, Mini Bone Magons, Mini Clowns, Mini Snowmen, Mini Wolves, Mini Cat Magicians, and Sand Flowers.
Magon: The second-weakest enemy. These guys are basically just slightly larger and tougher versions of the Little Ones that need to be destroyed by a final move. Including Magons, Bone Magons, and Clowns. The ones that can be destroyed by 3 hits are: Snowmen, Wolves, Magician Dogs, and Mummy Wolves.
Triceratops: Fairly common and strong enemies. They have two stages, there up-right stage (they walk around, swinging and blocking with a club), and on all fours (vulnarable, but can charge). They can take a resonable amount of damage. They include Triceratops, Bone Triceratops, Clownigators, Snow Bears, Grizzlies, Brute Dolls, and Club Mummies.
Ankiron: Ankirons, as they are called, are large turtle like monsters. They are relatively harmless. Because of their size, all they can do is turn, and their only attack is shooting small and easily avoidible bombs. They can take a lot of damage though. Just like Ankirons, Bonkirons, Clownirons, Frozenkirons, Bomb Mammals, Horn Sheep, and Sphinx Cannons.
Cractyl: Like the little ones, Flying ones are not much of a threat. They only hover around, occasionally picking up and throwing Wario, or dropping things like bombs and spiked balls. Also Cractyls, Bone Cractyls, Fat Birds, Snow Bats, Tropical Birds, Baggy Birds, and Mummy Birds.
Crystal Entities: Other than bosses, Crystal Entities are the strongest enemies Wario faces. They have the strange ability to form a force barrier around themselves, trapping you in and forcing you to fight. They are immobile, and fight you in two ways. First, they can shoot a number of energy attacks. Second, because they are immobile, they prefer to summon minions called Crystal Creatures, which look and attack in a variety of forms and ways. Crystal Entities are immune to regular attacks, and can only be destroyed using more powerful and advanced moves. Unlike other enemies, once they are defeated, they cannot be fought again.

    top

    Stage-specific enemies
      Unithorn's lair
Unithorn: The Unithorns are in a world called the Unithorn's Lair, which is different in every level. Whenever you fall off a seemingly bottomless chasm, you will enter the Unithorn's lair, they are purple with large horns and attack by biting or charging Wario. Unithorns don't kill Wario, they steal money from him, and without Money, the game will be much harder. Speaking of hard, the Unithorn's Lair gets harder as you procede into the game. Also Unithors can't be killed, only stunned, to stun them, throw a bomb (hidden under all the crates but the one with the exit spring.
      Horror Manor
Shark: Has a large fin and chases after you.
Doorknockers: Destroy them to open doors. When silver ones are hit, they fire large blasts.
Big Bone Fist: A giant skeletal arm on a door.
      Wonky Circus
Caged Beast: A lion inside a cage that attacks with its claws. When attacked for the first time, it gets up on its feet and moves around to attack.
Elephant: Charges at the sight of Wario. Once defeated, their tamers can be tossed.
Cobra: Will bite when Wario gets too close. Like the Elephants, when they're disposed of, their charmers can be tossed around.
Electric Clown Fence: Throw Clowns at its moving targets to destroy it.
      Shivering Mountains
Icicle Mite: Piledrive them into the ground to use them as stepping stools.
Fattington: Wario bounces back when he comes into contact with its large belly.
Turtle: First appears with a giant chunk of ice on its back. Charge into it to destroy it.
Ice Blower: Does not damage Wario, but the icy mist it shoots freezes him.
Angler Mangler: Giant anglerfish that summons Barrel Busters. Piledrive them so that they launch their heads upwards to hit the Angler Mangler's light.
      Beanstalk Way
Ram: Will jump and squash Wario.
Wind Winder: A doll with a fan on his legs that can blow Wario away.
Monstrous Magnet: Magnet with wings. Throw them onto metallic surfaces to use them as stepping stools.
Land Ray: Stingray that moves around in the flowers. Ground Pound them to silence them.
Tree Freak: Dead-looking tree with a bulb on the front and two fruits on top. Punch it in the bulb to make it drop its fruits, then Ground Pound the ground to shake them a bit. Pick them up by the non-spiky side and throw them at the bulb.
      Mirror Mansion
Ninja Bird: Self-explanatory. When attacked the first time, they unleash a flurry of stabs. Back away, then attack them again.
Vampgician: Vampiric magician in a straightjacket with a lock and chain tied around him. Piledrive him once to free him, and he will turn into a vampire-like creature who goes around throwing locks.
Phantom: Can only be seen in the mirrors. Use them wisely to find their locations.
Wheel Mouse: Big white mouse that rides on a wheel. They can be seen in the mirrors, so punch them to subdue them.
Terrible Portrait: A group of three paintings (one the face and the other two the arms). Use the Barrel Busters to attack their arms.
      Pecan Sands
Big Scorper: Red scorpion that appears in the sand. Their tails are visible, so Ground Pound them where their eyes are to subdue them.
Laser Jigglefish: A giant jellyfish-like creature that floats around. It fires a laser from its underside and exposes it after it fires. Ground Pound it to subdue it.
Flying Shovel: Works exactly like the Monstrous Magnets, but must be thrown onto a sandy wall to use as stepping stools.
Stone-Cold Statue: A bird-like statue with three sections. Each section consists of eyes (fire shots), a nose (bring Wario closer), a mouth (breathes fire), and a weak spot (green glowing light). Hit them on their lights to fell them, but avoid the other parts!

    Reception
Wario World has been criticized by some for being too short and not very challenging. In terms of length, it consists of only eight main levels and can probably be completed in a little less than 5 hours. In addition, Wario's enemies are very easy to defeat in the earlier levels. In the first level for example, the smaller enimies do not even attack Wario, and the enimies with clubs/swords attack so slowly that it is almost impossible for them to hit Wario unless the player purposely lets them. Though the enemies become more skilled as the game progresses, even if Wario were to lose all his health, the player could simply continue from where he left off by paying a sum of coins, and as coins are very abundant, it is unlikely that the player would ever be short of change. Mini-bosses only appear in the game once and when defeated, they never appear again. If a player were to take the time to track down all of the collectibles (e.g. treasures, spritelings), the game's difficulty and length would be added to, but simply reaching the end of the game will not likely require a great deal of time or effort, putting the game in, frankly, the same situation as Yoshi's Story.
