Viremia is a condition where viruses enter the bloodstream. It is related to bacterimia, a condition where bacteria enter the bloodstream, and septicemia. Active viremia refers to the capability of the virus to replicate in blood. There are two types of viremia: Primary viremia, which is the initial spread of virus in the blood. Secondary viremia, where the primary viremia has resulted in infection of additional tissues, in which the virus has replicated and once more entered the circulation.
