    Victor Maurel (June 17, 1848 in Marseilles-October 22, 1923 in New York City ) was a French baritone. Educated in music at the Paris Conservatory, he made his debut in opera in Paris in 1868, and in London in 1873. Maurel had a reputation for his acting skills and vocal method. He created the leading part of Iago in Giuseppe Verdi's Otello and Falstaff, and was equally capable in Wagnerian and Italian opera. Later in life, he taught singing in New York.
