Overview Verizon Web Calling is a Voice over IP product that is integrated into the newest version of MSN Messenger, which was rebranded by Microsoft as "Windows Live Messenger". This product allows calls from a computer through Windows Live Messenger to most cell phones and landlines around the world. Windows Live Messenger windows will refer to this as "Windows Live Call", however call completion and billing is actually supported solely by Verizon. The product is only available in select countries including The United States, France, The Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Austria, The United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Italy, and Belgium. It is currently not available in Canada or any other country that is not aforementioned. There are plans to add aditional countries in the near future, but an exact timeline has not been established. Contacting Verizon Web Calling Customer Service Customer service for this product is currently only available by E-mail or online chat. The only way to send an e-mail or chat to Verizon Web Calling would be by logging into their "Online Account Manager" and clicking the help button. This forces anyone that contacts Verizon to log into Microsoft's secure Passport network first, so that the security of all accounts is maintained. Current Promotions and Advertizing Currently Verizon and Microsoft have not launched any major advertizing campagnes. However, on Verizon Web Calling's Website , they do offer a promotion to new customers. New customers in the USA are offered 1 hour of free calling if they purchase $10, and 2 hours of free calling if they purchase $25. New customers in other countries are given 1 hour of free calling for all purchases. Fraud Because this product is prepaid ($5, $10, or $25), Fraudsters have been known to set up fraudulent accounts with credit card numbers that they obtained through various illegal sources. The low amount of charges usually does not raise suspicion with credit card companies. This allows the fraudster to identify if the credit card is working or not, and quite often after making a purchase with Verizon Web Calling, these fraudsters make additional fradulent charges on the same card, for much more money. The amount of fraud that Verizon Web Calling receives is consistent with an average online service that takes purchases under $100. Verizon Web Calling has a customer service line where you can report fradulent activity by calling 800-624-0914 if you live in the USA. Some research will be done, but generally a refund will be issued for any real fradulent charges. Customers outside of the USA would need to get the number off their credit card statement.
