A varsity match refers to a sporting fixture between two university rivals. In the United Kingdom, the term is generally used to refer to matches between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, which are traditional rivals. Sportsmen who compete at a Varsity match for one of these two universities are eligible for an Oxford blue or Cambridge Blue.
In particular, The Varsity Match usually refers to the annual Oxford-Cambridge rugby union match, and The Varsity Race usually refers to the annual Oxford-Cambridge rowing race.
