    Vallehermoso is located on the southwestern and the northwestern coasts of La Gomera in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the Canary Islands. Vallehermoso is linked with a main highway encircling every part of the island and is located WNW of the island capital, San Sebastián de la Gomera .

    The population is 3,141 (ISTAC, 2005), its density is 47.6/km² and the area is 109.11 km²/10,911 ha, some reads 109.32 km². The elevation is 230 m. Vallehermoso is the second largest municipality in area. Farmlands are in the valley areas and within the Atlantic, the mountain and the hills dominate the central part and part of the coastline are cliffs. Its climate is mainly vegetation.

    Part of the area are made up of farmlands, while the mountainous areas are forested or grassy. Its main industry are agriculture, tourism and some businesses. Vallehermoso is famous for its palm honey production (Miel de Palma) as well as tomato, potato and banana production.

    Historical population





    The population decreased until the mid to late 1990s when it slowly boomed up again. The population began to boom again but declined close to the 2004 population level.

    Sites of interest

    The municipality features a rock-formed mountain Los Organos which are made up of basalt rocks. Mountaintops includes El Cercado and La Fortaleza or Chipude. The natural beauty of the mountain area forms a part of the Garajonay Park. Directly by the coast of Vallehermoso features a cultural centre named El Castillo del Mar, located in an old banana factory which was used until 1950 is the centre for concerts, cinema and folklore music. The Castillo was restored in 1981 by the photographer Thomas K. Müller.
