It is situated on the southwest border of the municipality. It covers an area of 9.23 km², has a population of 46,161 and a population density of 5,002 per km². Copenhagen Zoo (Københavns Zoologiske Have) is a ten minute walk from the centre of Valby. Toftegårds Plads is the main square in Valby, featuring a Christmas tree during the Christmas season.

to the south is a body of water called 'Kalvebod' which separates it from the island 'Amager' where Copenhagens international airport 'Kastrup' is located.
The headquarters of Carlsberg, international beer and beverages marketer, and film production company Nordisk Film are in Valby.
