The University of Bordeaux is an organisation consisting of four autonomous universities:

Université Bordeaux 1 * - natural science

Université Victor Segalen Bordeaux 2 * - medicine and life sciences

Université Michel de Montaigne Bordeaux 3 * - the liberal arts

Université Montesquieu Bordeaux IV * - political science and law

Bordeaux 2 is located in the city centre, while the other three were relocated in the 1960s to Domaine Universitaire, a vast campus located in the communes of Talence, Pessac and Gradignan. Among the most well-known institutions are:

Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux * (Political Studies Institute, commonly known as "Sciences Po"), an elite school for future policy-makers,

Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature (National School of Magistrature) *,
