The United States Census Bureau (officially Bureau of the Census as defined in Title ) is a part of the United States Department of Commerce. It is the government department responsible for the United States Census.
Legal mandate The Constitution of the United States directs that the population be enumerated at least once every ten years (through the U.S. Census), and each state's number of Federal Representatives in Congress determined accordingly. The Census Bureau is in mandated with fulfilling these obligations: the collecting statistics about the nation, its people, and economy.
