Taysir Allouni is a jailed journalist from the Al Jazeera news channel. He was born in Dayr az Zawr in Syria in 1955 then in 1983 he moved to Spain where he studied Economics, and has lived there ever since, adopting Spanish citizenship in 1988.
The spelling above is used in many places, though Tayseer and Alluni are also acceptable. In its July 15, 2006 feature and interview (page W1), the Financial Times spelled his name Tayseer Alony Kate.
Highlights of his career include
working as a correspondent for Al-Jazeera in Afghanistan - he was the only international correspondent in Kabul in October 2001.
