Tank Mania was originally an experimental project created by Tomas Eriksson. But since releasing the game on the internet, the game has proved to be hugely popular among players from all over the world. Therefore, Tomas has improved the gameplay and is currently working on a new version which hopes to involve 4-way team play. The new version has been under development for some time however, and its release date is uncertain.
Gameplay Tank Mania's gameplay involves a mixture of hand-to-eye co-ordination and tactical decision making. Successful play also hinges on a large dollop of spatial awareness. Tank Mania has two main game modes: Individual The Individual mode is a free-for-all mode in which players compete against each other in a deathmatch style game. Players earn points by eliminating the opposition. The player with the most points at the end of the time limit wins the match. Team Play Team Play follows similar rules to Individual play, but allows groups of people to play in teams. The aim in Team Play, again, is to get the most points by eliminating the opposition. But to earn extra points, the teams must also attempt to capture the opposition's flag and return it to base. Team Play Maps Of the six standard maps on offer, two have proven to be far more popular than the others. Team Play 1 is the oldest map, and, when Tank Mania was originally launched, was the only map available. Team Play 3 is currently the most popular map on Tank Mania, as it offers a perfect balance between attacking and defensive play. Map Editor Tank Mania offers registered members the ability to create their own maps using a built in Map Editor. To access the map editor, the player must click the "Map Editor" button located at the bottom of any lobby. If you already made a map it will be in the drop-down menu. There is a map name box and it is what the map name will be. Size is 400 to 3000 in both boxes. The second drop down menu is for Individual play(IP) or Team play(TP). Map Editor Controls A main fault when creating maps is the following: do not put a bridge directly over a river. Tanks will not be able to use the bridge. Power-ups There are several power-ups that can be used to aid you against the opposition: Tankmania Jargon Smurf - A smurf is a person who purposely logs in under an unknown name or Gp account and pretends to be someone other than they actually are. Many times they deceive others because most of them do not admit to who they really are. In order to successfully smurf, one should create a name irrelevant to their original, change their ms, and purposely play and type differently than what they normally would. Usually a smurf is also a player of above average playing ability. Xspeed!/xspeedpro! - A program specifically designed to modify the speed of one's pc, one could say, in simple terms. If the speed is increased, all timer's will speed up and so will the gameplay so that things occur faster than they normally do and vice versa for when the speed is decreased. Players use this in order to decrease the interpolation time of animations in consqequence, players can see flags or shells coming sooner than it should. They also use it to change their ms. Aimbot(a longer line in a flash.swf file edited) - Another program which does exactly what the name implies. It is created so that players have perfect aim whilst playing the game. Recently, controversy has been an uproar in Tankmania about the usage of such a cheating device. Ms(Milliseconds) - In a way, it's like a ping. A person's MS shows the speed of their connection relative to their distance from the server. Many in the UK have a lower MS because of the close distance, whereas those in the US have a higher MS. People with slower connections, such as dial up, have dangerous levels of MS. Gg - Good game. See also, spontaneous bMx fLip quote. Otu - The way that the Japanese say, "Good game." Noob/Newb/Nerb/Nub - All terms for people who are considered "new" and "inept" at playing the game. Bug - Something that occurs in the game that is not necessarily supposed to happen. It's basically a glitch. For example, one can still catch a flag if it passes by them by moving forward just a bit. There are several different types of bugs that can occur in gameplay; players often take advantage of these. Grass. - Comment that is commonly used by "well-known" players such as Grass, Pimped-Guy, St.Melody, Brass Monkey, Kuroudo, Secret, Manitoba, Suicide, Lloyd, Setsuna,Smiw,Matsutake,...Ect, to start a game. No partictular meaning (Sometimes Good Luck or Good Game), althought it is also very popular to be said in the start of a game when user "Grass ( )" appears. Also has been used as; Grasshole, Grazz. Specific use of Grass must contain period at the end, this fad lead to the creation of the user "Dew". Naab - Naab or Nab was a term started by user BBC and possibly other members, Naab in simple terms just means Noob, but is known to be in relation to the Swedish language Nab is a shortened version of Naab. | ||||||||
