Sprout Ball is a game, similar in some ways to tag and dodgeball and best played by 10 or more people.

Play begins with three (or more for larger groups) soft balls introduced to a play area over which the players are scattered. Players must then attempt to gain a ball which they can then throw at other players to turn them into "sprouts".

    If you possess a ball...
You can only move three steps.
You can throw the ball at other players, causing them to become a sprout. If, however, they catch the ball, you become a sprout and they gain the ball.
You may deflect other balls thrown at you with your own ball.
You cannot hold more than one ball at once.
In order to move further than three steps you may throw your ball to a player who has been made a sprout, move to a new location and then shout "sprout me" to have the ball thrown back to you.

As a sprout, you sit down where hit by the ball and may return to the game when you see the person who made you a sprout become a sprout themselves. You may not interfere with the game, other than to return the ball if a player asks you to "sprout them", which you are obliged to try and do.

The remaining players are able to move freely and must both avoid being hit and attempt to gain a ball, either from the ground or by catching a ball being thrown, but not by snatching a ball from another player. Players are in a constant conflict between trying to gain a ball, and being hit by a ball thrown by another player, which often leads to very fast switches between being the chased and the chaser.

The goal of the game is to be the last player standing, which is only possible if you manage to hit every other person in the game with a ball without yourself being hit, and indeed this may either take a long time or simply never happen.
