Speusippus was an ancient Greek philosopher, nephew and successor of Plato as head of his philosophical Academy. He resided there for eight years, where he was noted for his debauchery and extravagance. Plato attempted to curb him, but without effect. He died either of suicide or a wasting disease.
Speusippus held that it was impossible to know everything, without being aware of all other knowledge besides, in opposition to scepticism. Though it is said that Speusippus adhered to Plato's doctrines, according to Diogenes Laertius, he rejected the Platonic theory of forms.
