    The Seattle metropolitan area in Washington, USA includes the city of Seattle, King County, Snohomish County, and several surrounding cities and counties in the Puget Sound area. The U.S. Census Bureau defines the metropolitan area as the Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia, WA Combined Statistical Area, with an estimated population of 3,763,569 (as of 2004), making it the 13th largest United States metropolitan area.

    As defined by the United States Census Bureau, the Seattle—TacomaOlympia, WA combined statistical area is made up of the following core-based statistical areas:

      Tacoma (metropolitan division)
      Olympia (metropolitan statistical area)
      Shelton (micropolitan statistical area)
