    Prince and mediator of the feuding families in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. He is a relative of Mercutio and Count Paris and the marshal law of the land. He could be considered the chorus of the play. Escalus hates the feud between the two families, and is the exiler of Romeo. He delivers the famous final lines of the play:
    For never was there such a tale of woe / than this of Juliet and her Romeo.
