Poul-Henning Kamp (sometimes known as PHK) is a Danish FreeBSD developer, responsible for implementation of the widely used MD5 password hash algorithm, a vast quantity of systems code, including the FreeBSD GEOM storage layer, GBDE cryptographic storage transform, part of the UFS2 file system implementation, FreeBSD Jails, malloc library, clock/time code, and the Beerware license.
Poul-Henning Kamp's dispute with electronics manufacturer D-Link over a matter of NTP vandalism was resolved April 27, 2006.

Poul-Henning is also the lead architect and developer for the Varnish project.

Poul-Henning is responsible for the widespread use of the term Bikeshed_color to describe contentious but otherwise meaningless technical debates over trivia in open source projects. This term is in, among others, the FreeBSD Project, the Perl Project, and the Subversion Project.
