In television and film, a plot point is a significant or overt action or moment within a plot that creates obstacles, raises the stakes, articulates a theme, or complicates things for a protagonist trying to reach an objective. Noted screenwriting teacher Syd Field teaches that that the 'ideal' movie plot has the first turning point occurring in exactly the 27th minute of the film. See screenwriting theories for an overview list of plot points.
