pOH is a logarithmic measure of concentration or activity of hydroxide anions (OH- or aOH-). pOH = -log10aOH- In aqueous solutions, the hydroxide concentration results from the dissociation of water. H2O ↔ H+ + OH- or 2H2O ↔ H3O+ + OH- pOH can be mathmatically related to pH by using chemical equilibrium principles. Kw = aH x aOH-= 10-14 where Kw is the ionization constant of water. or pKw = pH + pOH = 14
