OrangePics was started by two parents who were looking for a safe place on the internet to share photos of their children with family spread out across Canada and as far away as New Zealand. OrangePics is developed and run entirely with open source software. It runs on Fedora Core (Linux), Apache HTTP Server, Apache Tomcat and PostgreSQL. It was developed in Java using Eclipse IDE. Drupal is incoporated into the application for the help system.
