Omotesando Hills is the latest in a series of Tokyo urban developments by Minoru Mori. The development occupies almost the full length of Omotesando, a famous shopping and residential street in Aoyama known as Japan's Champs-Élysées. It was designed by Tadao Ando, one of Japan's leading architects. It houses over 130 shops and 38 apartments.

The building replaced the dilapidated Bauhaus-inspired Doujunkai Apartments, which had been built in 1927 after the Great Kanto Earthquake.

Residents, notably Mark Devlin, publisher of Metropolis magazine, have complained about the development's monolithic design, overtly commercial nature, and lack of concern for the neighboring environment.
