Odd Della Robbia is a character from the French animated television series Code Lyoko. Christophe Caballero provided Odd's voice in the first and fourth episodes ("Teddygozilla" and "Log Book," respectively). Matthew Géczy provides Odd's voice in the other episodes. In the French version, Raphaëlle Lubansu provides his voice.

    Name meaning
Odd's last name is most likely derived from the Italian family of the della Robbia, a Florentine family of sculptors and ceramists active from the 15th to the 16th century. The most well-known of the family's members is Luca della Robbia, an important Italian Early Renaissance Sculptor, who lived from 1400 until 1482. With Odd's interests in drawing, music, and the arts, this is probably not a coincidence. The name "Della Robbia" is also the name used to describe a kind of art using ribbons. Odd's first name can be thought of as an apt description of his own personal style, which is somewhat odd when compared to his friends.

    Character outline
Odd is the jokester and prankster of the group, acting less serious and more carefree than the others in any given situation. He is 13 years old, in ninth grade, 4.69' tall, and weighs 70.5 pounds.

Odd has a unique style of dress, both on Earth and Lyoko. On Earth, he wears a normal shirt and bellbottom-ish pants, both of which are different shades of purple. He wears gold shoes and a gold belt that matches the color of his hair. He also has a purple stripe in the front of his long, spikey, blond hair (it's an actual part of his hair, as seen in both "Unchartered Territory" and "Revelation"). His night clothes, on the other hand, are red and orange. The shirt has a picture of Kiwi on it. Upon close inspection of the picture, it shows Kiwi urinating. Odd often draws a similar picture in class when he should be paying attention.

Odd's Lyoko appearance, as he describes it, is that of a "giant purple cat." Like a cat, his hands are dominated by the first four fingers. He doesn't possess a pinky on either hand. He also has claws and a purple tail to match, the latter of which Odd can control like a cat. Despite the feline-like features on his suit, there's a picture of Kiwi on his chest – the same one seen on his night shirt. In addition, on the cuffs of his gauntlet sleeves (on the upper arm), there are small outlines of animal faces. A close inspection will reveal that one has an outline of a stereotypical cat face (large, narrow eyes on a small face with whiskers) and the other has an outline of Kiwi's face. A white arrow appears on the back of each of Odd's hands. These are the points where his Laser Arrows emerge. His ID card has a paw print on the back. In the fourth season, Odd gets an upgraded version of his regular outfit.* He retains his cat-like appearance, but appears more armored and physically built than he previously did. He also gains cat ears and a set of three larger claws on each hand.

Odd has a pet dog named Kiwi, which he keeps in his room against school policy. Despite the rule against dogs, most of the students know Odd has the dog. It would seem that only the teachers are unaware of Kiwi's existence. Jim seems to know (or suspects) that the dog exists, but has never been able to prove it without a return trip taking place. Odd also shares a room with Ulrich. The others have their own rooms or live at home. This occasionally results in arguments between the two on roommate-related issues.

Odd suffers from motion sickness, as shown whenever he enters Carthage via a Transport Orb. He often complains of a stomach ache or nausea as soon as he enters the arena. Oddly enough, he does not get sick in the final episode of the second season, "The Key." This is perhaps a reference to the bad feeling a person may get in their stomach right before something bad happens, but reversed because he is usually made sick upon entering the arena. He also avoided the nausea in the episodes "A Fine Mess" and "Franz Hopper," but this was because he was in Yumi's body and sent there directly, respectively. In "A Fine Mess," Yumi suffered his usual motion sickness. In the third season, Odd never suffers from this sickness.

    Personality
Odd is a perpetual jokester, always having a snappy line to deliver for any situation. While Odd is fond of his own jokes, few others are. He's also less than a model student, usually drawing in class rather than paying attention. During tests, he often cheats; copying off of his friends' papers. During his free time, he prefers to work on music, film, drawing, and other forms of art, as well as skateboarding.

Compared to his friends, Odd seems to be the most enthusiastic and energetic, being the one who's been to Lyoko most often and seems to get sincere enjoyment from putting his life on the line there. In the first episode, "Teddygozilla," he jumped at the opportunity to take a solo mission to Lyoko, despite Jeremie's insistence that it would be too dangerous.

Odd's also considers himself to be something of a ladies' man, having managed to date almost every (similarly aged) girl at the school in the two years he's been attending it. At times, he's even dated two at once. He's also dated at least one girl from a different school — an African-American teenager named Samantha Knight, whom he runs into again in "Final Round" after almost a year of separation. Odd has even been involved with Sissi at one point, though he wasn't aware of it at first. In the episode "Déjà Vu," Odd became interested in a girl he met on the Internet. Eventually, he decided to meet her, only to learn it was Sissi. While Odd figures this out at the end of the episode, he doesn't reveal it to Sissi, who is left thinking that her Internet date stood her up.

Odd's behavior in this regard backfires on him after a while, however. Having dated most of the girls at the school, all of them (through rumor or experience) know what Odd is like, as well as some of his more unflattering characteristics. Odd's foot odor is — unfortunately — a particular characteristic affecting his relationships. Every girl at the school is acutely aware of his foot odor, which Odd wasn't aware of until Sissi informed him of it. He then went to the school nurse (who also knew) to get a cure for it. The cure — a cream applied to his feet — smelled even worse than his feet did originally.

Odd has a love of food from the cafeteria, usually liking to point out the cafeteria's menu for the day before and after missions. Because of this, he has a reputation among his friends and some of the faculty for being a heavy eater, many times dining on his friends' leftover portions. Various characters have pointed out his unusual stomach capacity through creative comparisons. Despite his eating habits, Odd retains his small stature because of his high metabolism, making him the shortest member of the group. As a running gag, many characters call him "scrawny" because of this, much to his displeasure. He prefers to be called "svelte," which is French for "slender." Odd's constant overeating seems to give him much more energy than the others when it comes to fighting in Lyoko. In the episode "Laughing Fit," he manages to press on for some time despite his energy being drained from him by the gas that was sent with him to Lyoko. A similar event happened in "Tip-Top Shape" with a ghost that Jeremie had created to give Odd superpowers. Xana took control of the ghost and used it to drain Odd's energy. Odd managed to stay nimble for a while before collapsing.

    Skills

Odd is a capable athlete, as stated by the school nurse. He has competed in skateboarding and rock climbing competitions, as well as a few friendly games with Ulrich and other students. He also is a capable fighter, though not quite in the same way as Ulrich or Yumi. His skills tend to lean more towards various types of street fighting. This is hinted at in the second season episode "Franz Hopper" when Odd gets into a boxing match with a Creeper.

On Lyoko, Odd has cat-like reflexes and amazing acrobatic ability. Odd uses tumbling, backflips, kickflips, and somersaults to dodge attacks. When attempting to get closer to a monster to destroy it, he runs like a cat, jumping away whenever a monster shoots. He's also a strong climber, thanks to his cat-like claws used for gripping surfaces, as well as having a talent for rock climbing as stated in the episode "Vertigo." His strength in climbing on Lyoko enables him to scale virtually any object, including trees in the Forest sector. Depending on the surface, Odd can run fast enough that it appears as if he's defying the laws of gravity. Odd has even been shown climing upside-down on occasion underneath bridges in the Mountain sector.

Odd uses the Overboard, a form of hovering skateboard developed by Jeremie to enable faster travel in Lyoko. It's capable of flight and is easily the most manuverable of the three vehicles, as demonstrated by Aelita in the episodes "A Bad Turn" and "Saint Valentines Day," as well as by Odd on numerous occasions.

Odd fights with Laser Arrows, which are powerful spearheads that he fires from his hands. They usually fly in a straight line, but Odd has shown the ability to curve their flight path in the episode "Amnesia." In the first season, he could only hold 10 in each arm. This would lead to him running out of arrows at inconvenient times. Jeremie could reload the arrows, as well as increase the amount to about twice the normal amount, but it took time and did little good. In the second season, however, Jeremie was able to give Odd the ability to hold up to 10,000 arrows, pretty much assuring that he would never run out (although he does run out in "Straight to Heart," only to have his arrows reloaded). In the episode "Franz Hopper," Xana's polymorhic clone upgrades his arrows, allowing the arrows to track their targets and destroy them on contact. Odd referred to them as "homing darts." The upgrade was removed shortly afterward.

Odd also has the ability to form a shield over his chest by bringing an arm up in front of his chest, which produces a medium-sized shield. It can absorb enemy attacks without weakening, but doesn't cover a large area, allowing him to be hit in the legs or back. While Odd seems to gain this power in the second season, he is shown using it (albeit accidentally) in the prequel episode, "Xana Awakens." He never uses this abiltiy in the first season.

During the first season, Odd could also see a short distance into the future at random points on Lyoko, which he called "Future Flash." Unfortunately, he had no control over this power, and it rarely came to him. In "Triple Trouble," it was revealed that Odd lost the ability due to Jeremie's reprograming of their abilities in the second season. Jeremie didn't bother to restore it because it was "useless."

Odd also had the ability to teleport short distances in "Triple Trouble," which Jeremie designed for him after Odd complained about his lack of special powers. Though successful, copies of Odd were left in the places he teleported from. After trying it twice, Jeremie devirtualized Odd in an attempt to go over what went wrong. In doing so, he devirtualized both of Odd's copies, creating three seperate Odds. Jeremie used the scanners to recombine the three Odds later in the episode. At the end of the episode, Jeremie offers to restore the ability, having fixed it, but Odd decided that he's strong enough as is.
