This article is on just the Mandarin spoken in the Northeastern part of China. For the standardized official spoken Chinese language (Putonghua/Guoyu), see Standard Mandarin.

Northeastern Mandarin or Northeast "Chinese" Dialect is a variety of Mandarin Chinese, known collectively as "Dongbeihua" (Traditional Chinese: ; Simplified Chinese: ; pinyin: ; literally "Northeast Speech/Language"). Northeastern dialect is very similar to the Beijing dialect, upon which Standard Mandarin Chinese (Putonghua) is based. Although, many Northeasterns claim to speak a more pure form of Mandarin than those in China's capital.

    Spoken Region of the Language
The dialect is spoken by people in the Northeastern part of Mainland China; areas like Liáoníng (), Jílín (), and Hēilóngjiāng () provinces. These three provinces make-up what is know as Manchuria. Although, the Beijing government and the most Chinese call the area "Northeastern China." With over 100 million people living in the Northeastern part of China, the speaking population is quite large. Like the other dialects, differences between Northeastern Mandarin and Standard Mandarin arise from the wide geographical distribution and cultural diversity of China.

    Cultural and Regional Identity
Although, not considered its own dialect around academic circles, variants like Northeastern Mandarin offen contribute to a strong regional identity. For example: One can usually recongize a Northeasterner by their speech (much like how one can assume a person with a southern accent to be from the Southern parts of United States).

    Origins of Language
Dongbeihua also retains elements from native Tungus languages, Japanese and Russian: there are enough differences to give the dialect its own distinctive characteristics. The Northeast China dialect is the Mandarin dialect spoken in Northeastern China. Northeastern China dialect evolved from Han immigrants mainly from Shandong and Hebei provinces.
