The United States National Academy of Engineering is a private, non-profit institution which was founded in 1964, under the same congressional act that led to the founding of the National Academy of Sciences, signed by President Abraham Lincoln, in 1863.
Charles Stark Draper Prize The Academy makes the annual award of the Charles Stark Draper Prize for the advancement of engineering and the education of the public about engineering. The Prize is worth $500,000. The prize is named for Charles Stark Draper, the "father of inertial navigation", an MIT professor and founder of the Draper Laboratory.
