Martin Schwarzschild (May 31 1912 – April 10 1997) was a German American astronomer. He was the son of famed astrophysicist Karl Schwarzschild and the nephew of the Swiss astrophysicist Robert Emden. His work led to greater understanding in the fields of stellar structure and stellar evolution. He also headed the Stratoscope projects, which used balloon-mounted instruments to study astronomical phenomena.
