MSN Explorer is a web browser which comes with Windows XP that integrates MSN features such as Hotmail and MSN Messenger with a web browser. However to make use of these services requires a Windows Live ID (formerly known as a Microsoft Passport or .NET Passport). MSN Explorer is essentially a graphics-heavy version of Internet Explorer, and could be termed an Internet Explorer shell. It features many colorful animations in the same style as MSN Messenger and because of this it is considered to be more accessible for beginners on the Internet. It also contains new user friendly features such as the ability for the user to access the option menus by typing the name of the menu in the address bar, in manner similar to AOL's "keywords". Every so often the browser will automatically update itself. Development of the free version of MSN Explorer was halted in favor of a version only available with MSN Internet Access. Microsoft will not be including it in their upcoming operating system Windows Vista.
