Lyonnais is a former province of central-eastern France, centered around the city of Lyon. It roughtly corresponds to the modern Rhône and Loire departments.

After the division of the Carolingian Empire, the region was part of the Kingdom of Burgundy, and thus, after 1032, the Holy Roman Empire. The disintegration of Imperial control over the Kingdom of Burgundy, especially after the fall of the Hohenstaufen in 1254, led to French encroachment in the region, and the Lyonnais was acquired by King Philip IV of France in 1313.

Lyonnais is a dialect of the Arpitan language that is spoken in the region and leaves traces on the local French.
