The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States. They hold regular meetings in City Hall on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays at 10:00am (except on holidays or if decided by special resolution not to meet). The Los Angeles City Council Memorial Media Center (Media Center) is where press conferences and interviews with the councilmembers take place.

The Los Angeles City Council is composed of fifteen members from fifteen administrative districts. Each councilmember is elected to a 4 year term. The President of the Council is elected after the first regular meeting after June 30 on odd-numbered years by the council members. So too is the President Pro Tempore elected in the same fashion. The Asst. President Pro Tempore is appointed by the Presidents.

Each city council member earns an annual salary of $149,159. This makes them the best paid city council members in the country. The council member is also entitled to a $1,000,000 annual discretionary fund which they could use to fund whatever project they want. Each council member is given the funds to operate their office including the salaries of their staff. Therefore, the salaries set by the council member determine the size of the staff. Each council member on average has a staff of about 20 people. They also get a free car.*
