García Jofre de Loaísa was a Spanish sea captain-commander and explorer known for leading an expedition from 1525 - 1526, which was sent to colonize the East Indies. In the expedition, Loaísa and Juan Sebastián Elcano sailed with 146 men and 7 ships from Spain on July 24, 1525. However, this expedition failed and most of Loaísa's crew members including Sebastian Elcano died in the Pacific ocean in 1526. Andrés de Urdaneta and 24 other crew members survived and managed to return to Spain.
