This is a list of the Governors of New York. The Governor of the U.S. state of New York is the highest executive officer of the state, was originally chosen for a term of two years. In 1877 the term of office was extended to three years, in 1895 reduced back to two years, and in 1938 it was extended to the current four-year term.
