KSCW, channel 33, is an affiliate of The CW and based in Wichita, Kansas. It is owned by Banks Broadcasting and made its debut on the air in August 1, 1999, under the call letters KWCV-TV. Its transmitter is located in Colwich, Kansas.
The CW On January 24, 2006, the WB and UPN networks announced that they would merge. The newly combined network would be called The CW, the letters representing the first initial of its corporate parents CBS (the parent company of UPN) and the Warner Bros. unit of Time Warner. The merger will take effect on-air in September 2006, and KSCW will be the CW affiliate for the Wichita-Hutchinson, Kansas Designated Market Area. Current UPN affiliate, KMTW, will become the My Network TV affiliate for the Wichita area. On March 21, 2006, not long after the affiliation announcement, KWCV received approval from the FCC to change its call letters to KSCW, to reflect the new affiliation. The change took effect March 28, 2006. * With CW affiliation, the station branding will become Kansas' CW.
