Holden Racing Team is a V8 Supercar racing team that began following the establishment in 1988 of the joint venture between the TWR Group and General Motors Holden, in forming Holden Special Vehicles. It was created as a marketing link between the Special Vehicle’s division and the on-track heritage of Holden’s motor sport activities. In 1989 Perkins Engineering was contracted by Holden Special Vehicles to run the race cars under the HSV banner, with the Holden Racing Team being established the following year. The team's current drivers are Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly. The current Team Manager is Rob Starr. In 1990 the team competed in the Bathurst 1000, with manager Win Percy and driver Alan Grice racing for them. They won that year's event, and finished runner-up at the next event. The newly formed V8 Supercars series started in 1993, which gave the HRT team enough time to rebuild their cars and get ready for the battle with the other Ford teams competing in the competition.
1988 The Holden Racing Team was born in 1988 following the establishment of the joint venture between the TWR Group and General Motors Holden, in forming Holden Special Vehicles. It was a logical step to form a touring car team to create a marketing link between the Special Vehicles division and the on-track heritage of Holden's motor sport activities. 1989 In 1989, Perkins Engineering was contracted by Holden Special Vehicles to run the racecars under the HSV banner. 1990 The Holden Racing Team was established in 1990 under the management of Win Percy. Success was immediate, with Percy combining with Alan Grice to win that year's Toohey's 1000 at Mount Panorama 1991 1991 was a good year for HRT at the big motor races. The success at Mount Panorama continued with Win Percy & Allan Grice claiming second place in the Toohey's 1000 while In the Sandown 500 Thomas Mezera & Brad Jones also claimed 2nd. Only 3 championship races we're contested. 1992 In '92'HRT had back to back 2nd placings at the Sandown 500, Thomas Mezera & Brad Jones were again at the wheel. 1993 1994 1995 1996 2006 The new 2006 HRT VZ Commodore continues many of the professional design elements that have come to be associated with the Holden Racing Team. Significant differences include the bold new lighter shade of red and the fading black on the lion’s head part of the logo on the sides of the car. The current season has seen an improvement in results compared to 2004 and 2005 with Skaife leading the Championship on adjusted points early in the season. While Kelly has not shared in Skaife’s success and the points have not come as easily during the winter months, qualifying results remain encouraging. | ||||||||
