Franklin W. Dixon is the pen name used by a variety of different authors who wrote The Hardy Boys novels for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. This pseudonym was also used for the Ted Scott Flying Stories series.
The most widely recognized ghostwriter was Leslie McFarlane (1902-1977) who, between 1927 and 1946, wrote 19 of the first 25 Hardy Boys novels.
The Hardy Boys mysteries are one of the largest and oldest book series, along with the Nancy Drew books. They have been around for nearly half a century, and more are still being made. They were originally published by Grosset & Dunlap, but now other publishers such as Aladdin Publishers.
