The Federal Housing Administration began as part of the New Deal in 1934. It insures private home mortgages FHA Loans for single family residences, condominiums, and cooperative apartments, and also for multifamily apartment buildings, hospitals, and nursing homes. FHA is a government corporation within the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It was authorized by the National Housing Act of 1934.
