Empire Star was a 1966 science fiction novella by Samuel R. Delany, often published as a separate book. Delany hoped to have it first published as part of an Ace Double with Babel-17, but this did not happen. It was finally bundled with Babel-17 in a 2001 reprint.

The plot concerns an eighteen-year-old boy known as Comet Jo, and a narrator named Jewel. Jewel is on a spacecraft carrying a vital message, but the craft crashes on Rhys, a moon of a planet circling the star Tau Ceti. Comet Jo sees the crash, and finds Jewel in the wreckage. The story concerns Jewel's attempts to communicate with Comet Jo, Comet Jo's coming-of-age and education, and an attempt to bring an end to slavery. Jewel tells the story largely as an omniscient narrator, but when time travel enters the narrative, he gives up, presents snapshots of events, and leaves the reader the task of perceiving them in the proper order.
