In computing, a distributed storage area network (SAN) is a storage area network that has many geographically-dispersed disk drive networks. All the networks are treated as one unit and are connected by the iSCSI storage area network protocol. SAN is different than NAS and CAS. SAN is a sub-network of shared storage devices that allows for all information stored to be shared among all of the servers on the network.
