    J. S. Morgan & Co. was a London investment firm, founded by the American George Peabody, which in 1854 became Peabody, Morgan and Company as Junius Spencer Morgan became a partner. Upon Peabody's retirement in 1864, it took the name J. S. Morgan.
The firm specialized in selling American bonds to British investors.

In 1864, Julius acquired an existing firm to be the bank's New York branch and made his son, J. P. Morgan a partner in this new branch, Dabney, Morgan and Company, which was later to become the investment firm J. P. Morgan & Co.

In 1904, Edward Grenfell was made a partner in the firm, and, in 1909, it underwent a further change of name to become Morgan, Grenfell and Company.

In 1990, Morgan, Grenfell was acquired by Deutsche Bank.

In 1999 Director Steven Thorn (at age 33) was ranked amongst the top three city sellers.
