Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (Irish: An Roinn Talmhaíochta agus Forbartha Tuaithe, Ulster Scots: Männystrie o Fairms an Kintra Fordèrin or DARD) is a Government Department in the Northern Ireland Executive. The Department is responsible for growth and the development of the countryside in Northern Ireland. The department has responsibility for various aspects of rural management. This include food, farming, and environmental policy and the development of the rural sector as a whole. In schemes which affect the whole of the United Kingdom DARD is responsible to Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) in Great Britain. The current direct-rule minster is David Cairns MP.
