The Defence Analytical Services Agency, or DASA, is an agency within the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence (MoD). Launched in July 1992, it provides professional analytical, economic and statistical services and advice to the Ministry of Defence and defence-related statistics to Parliament, other Government Departments and the public.

DASA employs a mixture of statisticians, economists, information technology specialists, other analysts and specialists, and administrative staff. DASA is an Investors in People and has an open culture in which individual contribution, team working, continuous improvement and a good work/life balance are encouraged.
DASA is part of both the Government Statistical Service and the Government Economic Service and DASA Directors are the MoD's heads of profession for statistics and economics.

DASA is responsible for publishing all of the National Statistics on defense.

The Agency's main products and services are:

Publicly available National Statistics on defence
Statistics on a wide range of defence activity for use within MoD (personnel, financial, logistics, commercial, health, equipment etc)
Economic advice and investment appraisal and evaluation
Forecasting to support the Department's financial and personnel planning
Consultancy services, advice and research including modeling, statistical analyses, surveys and problem solving.

    Students

DASA is unique amongst the MoD for employing vast amounts of university students on the placement year of their degree. Currently, around 10% of DASA's workforce is made up of College-Based Sandwich Course Students (CBSCS). In 2003, DASA won an award for best placement year in the public sector. It sponsored the same award in 2004.

Although the students tend to enjoy their time at DASA, DASA has in the past been criticised for its use of students. Firstly, the work they are given tends to have little relevance to their degree and secondly, some argue that it is unfare to employ so many students (who get paid substantially less than those who carry out the same work, but are permanent members of staff) when many graduates find it hard getting work.

It is currently up in the air as to whether DASA will carry on its employment of (so many) students.

Each of DASA’s branches has a head of branch, which reports to one of the four directors, who intern report to the Chief Executive, Mike McDowell.
