This article is about the oceanic zone. For the IMAX movie (which was actually filmed in the photic zone) see Deep Sea (film). Deep sea refers to those areas of oceans to which little or no light penetrates (the aphotic zone). Many organisms in this area rely on a food chain rooted in Chemosynthesis rather than Photosynthesis.
