Cyclical Alternating Pattern occurs in sleep. Characterized as periodic episodes of aroused EEG activity (more Sleep spindles and K-complexes) followed by a period of more quiet sleep. Both these periodic activities, when combined, are considered the CAP period.
CAP does not occur in REM.
