The Corona Freeway is a freeway traveling through Riverside County, California. It is signed as Interstate 15 along its entire length. After Interstate 215 (the northern portion of the Escondido Freeway) splits from I-15 in Devore, I-15 continues on a roughly SSW path through southern San Bernardino, and is named the Ontario Freeway. The Ontario Freeway crosses the Riverside County line at Ontario, and continues to its southern terminus at Limonite Avenue in unincorporated Riverside County. I-15 then assumes the name of the Corona Freeway. This freeway continues through southwestern Riverside County until its terminus at California State Highway 74 (the Ortega Highway) in Lake Elsinore; I-15 continues thereafter as the Temecula Valley Freeway.
Legal definition The name "Corona Freeway" is, confusingly, sometimes applied to the Riverside County portion of State Route 71, which runs parallel to I-15 approximately 7 miles to the west. This is because the original definition for the Corona Freeway stated that it was "Routes 71, 91, and 15 from Route 10 West of Pomona to Route 215". State Highway Commission, 7/23/1958 What is now I-15 from SR 91 south to I-215 was once part of SR 71. However, the overhead signs on Route 10 eastbound and Route 57 southbound at the Kellogg Interchange in Pomona still refer to Route 71 as the "Corona Freeway" However, in 1993, the California Assembly passed legislation officially designating that route as a part of the Chino Valley Freeway, which effectively amended the Corona Freeway's definition to read "from Route 91 to Route 215".
