Corn Belt The Corn Belt is a region of the Midwest of the United States where corn is the predominant cash crop. Primarily, it includes Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio — approximately 50% of all corn grown in the U.S. is from these four states. The Corn Belt also includes parts of South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri, and Kentucky. The map depicts a loose definition of the Corn Belt. A narrow definition starts in central Indiana and Illinois (but not the extreme northern and southern areas of those states- this roughly corresponds to the "Prairie Peninsula"), through Iowa, with a fringe of Nebraska. Since Corn Belt is a colloquial term, and corn cultivation varies naturally by year, neither definition can claim authority. See also Canadian grain production regions | ||||||||
