    Plot

Bennington "Bink" Austin Cotwell Jr., a nine-month-old baby boy is scheduled to have a special photograph taken by Downtown Baby Photograhpers to be published in the newspapers. However, unbeknownst to Bink's parents, Bennington Sr. and Lorraine, the photographers have been abducted and tied up by a trio of bank robbers, Eddie, Norby and Veeko, who plan to kidnap Bink and hold him ransom.

Disguised as photgraphers, the trio go to the Cotwell's address where they abduct Bink and take him back to their apartment but Bink escapes and the rest of the movie concerns the infant crawling all over the city of Chicago, visiting the same sites as in his favorite book, "Baby's Day Out" and always a step ahead of the bumbling kidnappers. A police detective follows the baby's outings and reports them to his parents who predict, based on the fact that the baby's going everywhere from the book, where he's going to go next, an old war vets' home. There they collect him, and Bink communicates that his book is back at the kidnappers' flat, a "Tick Tock" (because it has a massive clock on the rooftop); the trio, nursing their wounds from the day, race to the window and Eddie, the leader, gives back the book and they are arrested. Once at home, after he's been put to bed, Bink picks up a new book, "Baby's Trip To China".
