Alveolus is a general anatomical term that can be used as a synonym for several more specific structures:
Dental alveolus, also known as "tooth socket", a socket in the jaw that holds the roots of teeth
Alveolar, the adjective form of "alveolus", can be used in several contexts:
Alveolar consonant, a linguistic vocalization depending upon touching tongue to alveolar ridge

Alveolus is considered by some (but not all) sources to be synonymous with acinus.
